What is the White Card Course?
The White Card course in Cairns (CPCWHS1001) is the mandatory safety induction training required before working at any construction site in Australia.Â
This course ensures all workers understand:
- Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) laws
- Construction hazards and risk controls
- Emergency procedures
- Safe work practices and PPE use
Upon successful completion, participants receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001. Allen Training will issue the Queensland White Card, which is generally received by post within approximately one week of certification.

WHO NEEDS A WHITE CARD?
You Need a White Card if You Work on a Construction Site
Under the Queensland Work Health and Safety framework, a worker includes employees, contractors, subcontractors, apprentices, trainees, labour hire workers, students undertaking work experience, and volunteers involved in workplace activities. Before carrying out construction work, workers must successfully complete General Construction Induction Training and hold a valid White Card. Employers and businesses are legally required to ensure workers have completed this training before commencing construction work on site.

- Apprentices and trainees
- Supervisors and site managers
- School students entering trade pathways

The White Card course (CPCWHS1001) meets Queensland’s General Construction Induction Training requirements under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011. Anyone performing construction work must hold a valid White Card before entering residential, commercial, or civil worksites.

The White Card course assessment is open-book but phone usage is not permitted. There is a wide range of oral questions to assess your ability to follow simple safety instructions written in English, ask questions, listen to instructions, orally report hazards, and complete a basic form.
I recommend that you carefully read the course manual which can be found in the resources once you have logged in to your account on a web browser, as learning from the manual will help you to be fully prepared for your assessment when you arrive at your course.

Entry Requirements
Before attending the course, participants should ensure they meet the following requirements.
- Participants must:
• be at least 13–14 years old
• have a valid working email address
• provide evidence of identity that meets the current Queensland Government requirements
• have a Unique Student Identifier, known as a USI - Demonstrate basic English and literacy skills

This nationally recognised course provides individuals with the essential skills and knowledge to work safely on construction sites. It covers:
- Identifying and reporting common construction hazards
- Understanding basic risk control measures
- Responding to potential incidents and emergencies
- Correctly selecting and fitting personal protective equipment (PPE)
Participants will develop an understanding of their health and safety responsibilities under WHS legislation and how to contribute to a safer working environment.
Assessment includes both practical and oral components, in line with Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) requirements. Students must demonstrate their ability to communicate WHS information verbally to complete the course. The training and assessment align with Part 6.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations, which outlines the mandatory requirements for general construction induction training.
This training supports general WHS awareness and does not replace site or task-specific instruction, which must be provided by the employer before commencing work.
This course is approved for delivery in Queensland only.
